Operatives Practice Test

The Operatives Test verifies that all workers have a minimum level of health, safety and environmental knowledge before entering a construction site.

Specialists Practice Test

The Specialists Test expands on the core subjects examined by the Operatives Test by including questions selected for the chosen specialist subject.

Managers and Professionals Practice Test

Managers and Professionals are responsible for embedding an effective health and safety culture and implementing its practices. The Managers and Professionals Test looks for this knowledge.

Signs, Symbols and Extinguishers Practice Test

Practice learning the signs, symbols and fire extinguisher colours that you may encounter on a construction site. The practice test can either restricted to only cover those found on the CITB test or be unrestricted.

To be eligible for any of the CSCS cards, first you must pass the CITB HS&E Test that is applicable for your role. There are 13 cards that you can apply for, and each requires you to have passed 1 of the 3 corresponding HS&E tests.

HOW IS THE TEST FORMATTED?

Each CITB HS&E Test consists of 50 questions in two sections:

  • The first section contains 38 questions testing your HS&E knowledge. You can review
  • The second section consists of 3 behavioural case studies with 4 questions in each case study, giving the remaining 12 questions. These case studies can be practiced in the Case Studies Practice tests.


About the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)

What is the Construction Skills Certification Scheme?

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is a UK based initiative that aims to improve quality and reduce accidents in the construction industry, as well as to assure clients that personnel working on construction sites have the necessary competence.

The scheme keeps a database of those who have achieved, or are committed to achieving, a recognized construction related qualification. Most principal contractors and major house builders require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid CSCS card.

What is a CSCS card?

CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do on site. There are different cards which reflect the different occupational competence and qualifications of construction related roles.

What types of CSCS card are there?

There are 13 types of CSCS card that are currently issued (there are a further 6 types that have been withdrawn, but may still be valid for current owners until their expiry). The 13 types of card are:

  • Labourer
  • Apprentice
  • Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager
  • Experienced Worker
  • Trainee Card
  • Industry Placement Card
  • Blue Skilled Worker
  • Gold Skilled Worker
  • Supervisory
  • Manager
  • Academically Qualified Person
  • Professionally Qualified Person
